A new school building for 200 children in Madagascar
With CHF 22,000, we can build a new school building for 200 children in Madagascar. We are working together with MadaClinics on this project. We are happy to receive any donation!
The school in the village of Maventibao currently consists of five buildings. Four of them are made of wood and sheet metal and are very unstable and outdated. At the same time, the number of students has doubled from 100 to 200 over the past five years. The school has long exceeded its capacity. In addition, natural disasters are on the rise and are taking a heavy toll on the unstable buildings. Most recently, one of the buildings was destroyed in January 2025. This repeatedly leads to canceled classes and makes school life very difficult.
A new concrete building with four rooms, solar panels, and toilet facilities
We want to change that: Together with the Malagasy NGO MadaClinics, we want to construct a concrete building. In addition to two classrooms, it will also include a staff room and a multimedia room. This will ensure that teachers can prepare for their lessons (the living conditions of teachers in Madagascar make this very difficult). The multimedia room will also enable the school curriculum to be adapted to today’s educational requirements. Books, paints, and toys will also be available here. Where possible, technical equipment will be available for use here too.
In addition, toilet facilities will also be built. Currently, there are no toilets or places where the children can wash themselves at the school. With over 200 schoolchildren, this is a huge problem. The school will also be supplied with electricity. We want to achieve this by reusing an old solar system and adding new panels.
About the costs
The total project costs are approximately 21,000 Swiss francs. We have set a donation target of 22,000 Swiss francs in order to be able to respond to possible price increases or additional costs.
- Concrete building with doors and windows, roof with ceiling, and exterior paint: MGA 52,355,000.00 (equivalent to approximately CHF 9,424, exchange rate as of October 9, 2025)
- Furniture (chairs, tables, benches, blackboards): MGA 2,395,000.00 (equivalent to around CHF 430, exchange rate as of October 9, 2025)
- Labor costs (school construction, transport of materials except sand will be covered by MadaClinics): MGA 27,680,000.00 (equivalent to approximately CHF 4,980, exchange rate as of October 9, 2025)
- Solarpanels: MGA 12’050’000 (umgerechnet rund CHF 2170.-, Kurs vom 9.10.2025)
- School materials: CHF 4,000
In addition to crowdfunding, we have applied for CHF 16,000 from the canton of Basel-Stadt, which supports such projects as part of its development cooperation program. We will find out in December 2025 whether or not we will receive this money. Regardless of this, we are already raising money through crowdfunding, as we need an additional CHF 6,000 on top of the CHF 16,000 to implement the project.
Experiences with MadaClinics
The school building would be the second major project we have carried out together with MadaClinics. In 2024, we built a solar power system that supplies the clinic with electricity. This cost around 16,000 Swiss francs. From experiences like these and our ongoing collaboration since 2020, we know that we have a partner we can rely on in MadaClinics. In addition to the on-site organization, MadaClinics employees would also take on some of the work involved in building the school.
In addition, with NLF Technology, we could call on a technician with whom we had already worked on the solar project.
This experience gives us the security we need when implementing such a large project.
The overarching goal
Our goal is to allow as many children as possible to attend school in Maventibao. Our long-standing collaboration and experience with MadaClinics enable us to implement this wonderful project. We appreciate every donation! Tell your friends and relatives about the project.
